ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – An 81-year-old man was arrested after investigators found two homicide victims in a trash can at his residence.
On March 25, around 6 p.m., Reginald McLaren called 911 to report that his wife and adult daughter were dead in their apartment, Englewood Police Chief Tracy Jones said at a news conference Tuesday.
Upon entering a residence in the 900 block of Englewood Parkway, officers found two deceased victims on the floor in a trash can.
During the initial call, McLaren told investigators he knew the suspect, who he said used a hammer during the attacks, according to Jones.
During the homicide investigation, Englewood police determined that both homicide victims were killed with an ax. Police believe one victim was also dismembered with a saw.
Chief Jones said McLaren was cooperative and eventually confessed to detectives.
“Some of our detectives have been detectives for 20 years. They described it as one of the worst crime scenes they’ve ever been a part of,” Jones said.
McLaren was arrested on probable cause in connection with the death. He will appear in Arapahoe County District Court this week.
