A chance to see the Alaskan aurora

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The northern lights have been on display across the country overnight. The displays were seen from western Alaska to Southcentral and Anchorage. The Aurora forecast calls for high activity again through Friday evening.

While a ridge of high pressure helps clear the clouds south-center and provide some sunshine for the weekend, a large storm lurks over the western end of the Aleutians heading toward the Bering Sea over the west coast and inland over the weekend.

A large spring low is loaded with a spring combination of snow, rain, and strong winds. Snowstorms are expected in many areas of the west side of the state through the weekend. Warnings are winter storm, blizzard and winter weather warnings. Snowfall could range from 6 to 12 inches, with winds up to 55 mph.
