A Mississippi man has been sentenced to federal prison for filing false information about a local police station bombing

A Mississippi man has been sentenced to federal prison for filing a false complaint about a plot to bomb a local police station.

Gregory Lee McKee, 24, of Biloxi, was sentenced to six months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release, and a $1,000.00 fine for filing a false report with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Attorney Darren J. Lamarca and the Special Agent in Charge. Jermicha Fomb of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

According to court filings, on September 20, 2022, McKee submitted an anonymous tip to tips.fbi.gov, the FBI’s website, in which he claimed to have heard a specific person discussing bombing a local police station. As a result of the delivery, law enforcement searched the individual’s home, interviewed the individual, and interviewed the individual’s mother.

The person denied making any statements about the shooting at the Biloxi police station. The individual also explained that Gregory McKee may have set him up because they had a previous conflict. Internet data indicated the tip came from an IP address associated with McKee’s mother. Officers eventually spoke with Mackey, who eventually admitted to passing the tip because he was angry with the individual.

The FBI and Biloxi Police Department investigated the case.

Assistant US Attorney Jonathan Buckner prosecuted the case.
