(CercleFinance.com) – The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded BAE Systems’ research and development organization FAST Labs a $7 million contract for the autonomous space target monitoring program.
DARPA’s surveillance program will focus on creating an autonomous system that will maintain constant ‘custody’ of large numbers of assets in diverse new constellations.
Under the terms of the program, the technology will be deployed on both advanced tactical satellites and ground stations.
“The rapidly evolving capabilities of close-to-peer adversaries are driving the need for additional long-range tracking at increased scale and speed,” said Dr. John Grimes, director at BAE Systems’ FAST Labs.
